Meet Your Instructor & the Yacht
We get familiar with the onboard equipment and systems, complete a safety briefing, and go through the standard yacht check-in process you will encounter on every chartered sailing yacht.
This sailing course will prepare you for fully independent sailing, from sailing and boat handling to navigation, route planning and crew organisation. You will learn all key safety procedures and gain the practical skills needed to deal with the most common situations on board.

We get familiar with the onboard equipment and systems, complete a safety briefing, and go through the standard yacht check-in process you will encounter on every chartered sailing yacht.
Sailing Basics
We leave the marina and get familiar with the manoeuvring capabilities of the sailing yacht through a series of practical exercises and tasks. This is followed by the basics of sailing on a beam reach and sailing towards our overnight destination.
Stern-to Mooring Basics
We learn how to anchor and practise the basics of stern-to docking. Later, we practise sailing upwind and the tacking manoeuvre, turning the bow through the wind.
Downwind Sailing
We approaching and picking up a mooring buoy, as well as alongside docking. Later, we learn downwind sailing and the gybing manoeuvre
Night Navigation
We practice entering marinas in different conditions and learn anchoring with the stern tied to shore, followed by a short break and preparation for night navigation.
Dockings

Skill Refinement
We focus on refining the techniques that are most important and require the most practice.
This course is intended for anyone who wants to learn to sail and maneuver a sailboat, and prepare for independent sailing.

The course is led by an experienced professional skipper with a strong background in the charter industry and competitive sailing.
With years of experience sailing yachts and catamarans, from small boats to large luxury catamarans, your instructor brings real-life knowledge from everyday charter sailing. He is also an active regatta sailor and a crew member of Melges 24 (Crew 760), one of the world’s most popular one-design racing classes.
With a degree in Kinesiology specialized in sailing, he combines hands-on sailing experience with clear, structured teaching. This makes learning to sail easier, safer, and more enjoyable.
After the course, I remain available for advice on yacht charter, route planning, and remote support while you are at sea. The course does not end when you leave the boat.

Before the course begins, you will receive a theoretical handbook to help you prepare and become familiar with key terms ahead of the practical part. During the seven days, learning takes place through real situations at sea, with daily hands-on practice and theoretical explanations that help you understand why certain decisions are made on board.
After completing the course, the instructor remains available for advice on future sailing trips, yacht charter, route planning, or any additional questions. The aim is for you to feel safer and more confident at sea even after the course has ended.

The course is conducted on a modern sailing yacht of approximately 45 feet (around 13.5 m), the most popular and practical yacht size in the charter industry. This means you will train on the exact type of boat you are most likely to charter in the future.
The yacht features 4 cabins, each accommodating two participants, with additional berths available in the saloon if needed. This size offers an excellent balance between comfortable working space and realistic sailing conditions. It is also agile enough for precise manoeuvring in marinas, anchorages, and under sail.
Throughout the course, you will become familiar with the yacht’s systems, equipment layout, pre-departure preparation, and correct procedures for docking, sailing, and safe handling of a sailing yacht in this category.
